Why Study Bible Prophecy

June 11, 2014

I saw a post on FB recently.  It was a post of Uncle Sam bowed in a Church praying asking God to save this land from those who wish to destroy it.  Something akin to anger rose up in me as I realized that we are where we are in this country because as Christians we have either sat silently  while or country has changed or complained about our countries situation instead of actively using our voices to bring about a return to putting God first.  What is happening to our country.  The foundations that this great country was built upon God and freedom of worship.  Today, our foundations are being eroded and are being set on fire.  Our  basic beliefs are burning one by one.  I could use statistics to prove that our society is losing ground morally but I won’t at least not now.

The remark I posted on FB was this.   “We need a revival in this country, in every church, in every home. We are being attacked at our very foundations and most Christians are asleep and going with the flow.   I believe to start this process EVERY christian should get in the WORD and understand bible prophecy. If we do that we will look from Genesis to Revelations for scripture that God is fulfilling in our life times.  Most of our pulpits are quiet today on prophecy.  Bible prophecy is really important?”  We should not remain quiet.

After writing that remark I started thinking about what I had written.   Usually, I always look for the log in my own eye before pointing out the log in other people eye.  This started me asking questions.  Is studying bible prophecy so important?  And if so, how important?   Some people think that  people who expend more than a passing moment examining Bible prophecy are   uneducated or crackpots and lunatics yearning for the destruction of the world? Is Bible prophecy really relevant to the gospel?  Or is the image that is sometimes given of Christians who are mad and believe in anything related to prophecy helping give a false image of the Bible and ministry of Jesus Christ?  These are just a few of the questions that came into my mind.

I answered these question for myself when I became a Christian many many years ago.  I was praying about where to start my bible reading and Revelations kept coming into my mind.  I thought that I was thinking crazy but because I kept hearing it, I started reading it.  I soon learned that to understand Revelations one needed to also understand the rest of the bible.  My study of Revelations and prophecies has been a lifelong project ever since.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

King James Version (KJV)

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

When the bible says “all” it means all scripture.  That should be good enough without any other reason.  But the bible has a lot more to say about prophecy.

Revelation 19:10

King James Version (KJV)

10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Without prophecy there would be no messiah and without the messiah there would be no need for Jesus.  Jesus came and thorough his birth, ministry, crucifixion, resurrection and ascension fulfilled prophecies.  By doing so Jesus authenticated his claim to be the one and only true Christ.   In essence, Bible prophecy is the most powerful witness to the divinity of Christ. So don’t listen to those who claim that Bible prophecy distracts us from the true Christian mission. Quite the contrary, all Bible prophecy points to Jesus Christ Himself.

The old Testament is still filled with many prophetic scriptures that are still to come to pass.  Jesus himself had a lot of instructions regarding prophecy.  He rebuked the Pharisees for not recognizing the signs of the times.  They knew about the scriptures regarding the Messiah, yet they chose to ignore Jesus who was standing and teaching in front of them.

Matthew 16

King James Version (KJV)

16 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.

He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.

And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?

A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.

Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?

Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducee’s?

12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducee’s.

13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day did not recognize who he was.  They were suppose to be watching and waiting for His first coming. Yet, they were asleep.  It makes me wander if we are asleep today.

We should be excited watching and waiting for His second coming.  We should be studying prophecy, we should be looking at all the scriptures regarding His second coming and Bible prophecy.  We should be having Bible Studies on prophecies.   Are we to be like the Sadducee’s and Pharisees or are we going to be ready for his arrival?

Maybe you are excited.  Maybe you are watching and waiting for His second coming.  In fact, maybe that is why you are reading my post today.  I have a lot more I want to say about this subject.  A lot more scriptures I want to post about why we should study Bible Prophecy.    Thank you for reading this and allowing me to vent a little this morning.  I hope you will return to read more about this subject later.

Wake Up!!!!

Blessings and Shalom through Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.

Living Life

June 11, 2014
When I think about death, I realize that our family is too familiar with death.  We have had so much death to deal with.  My brother Richard died in a motorcycle accident when he was 18.  He was my Mom’s baby and loved by all of us.  It was so traumatic for everyone.  We have never gotten over missing him.  My Father passed as well.  Then we lost my brother Jerry of liver failure.  He was just 18 months younger than me.  That left my Mom with four daughters.  Now just a few years ago we lost my sisters grandson, Parrish at 15.  Such a tragedy for us.  There  were others too.. Grandparents, aunts, cousins, friends.  It is never easy.

Today, my Mom of 87 has been in the hospital twice lately.    I  My mind will not accept the possibility of losing her.  She is so important to all of us.  Mom, is the matriarch of our family and has been the glue that holds us all together.  We are a large and “loud” family.   Mom has always known what to say to us.  “Pass and Repass” is a favorite.  She has suffered from dementia the last 10 or 11 years.  As she has gradually gotten worse over the years, we have lost a little of her each year.  She is still very much in there though.  She may not be able to express herself but I see her in every look, every turn of her head.  The song she sings over and over again.  Her love for clothes and pretty things.  Her humble spirit and her great love for her family.

My prayer is that God would allow my Mom to strengthen and stay with us.  We  still need her.  Her presence means so much to us all.  All my sisters have been pitching in and helping with her care.  That means so much and I think she knows and loves being the center of us all.  Grandchildren have been coming to see her, to talk with her and remember things she has cooked, and scores of other memories.  Great grand children have come and climbed up on her lap or push her wheel chair.  They love Mom and she loves them.  She comes alive when the babies come in.

Memories for years of her life come flooding to mind.  Help me pray that God leaves her with us for more years.  I know that “she is fully in God’s hands.”  He and only He can leave her with us.

Here are a few things I love  about my Mom.

She loves her children.  She had six of us.  I think if there had been better birth control back then she would have only had Evelyn.  One would have been enough for her even though she loved each of us very much.  We always said she loved the boys (Jerry and Richard) the most.  They were her pets.

She is kind and considerate to everyone she knows or meets.  She really shows it.  She would take food to anyone she heard had a death in the family.  I think this comes from when she was a child and she was taken to sit up with the dead with her sister Estelle and her Mom.  That spirit of love and kindness comes through in everything she does, even now in the midst of this illness.

She loved to cook pot fulls of dumplings to take to Church functions.  Mom was known by her great chicken and dumplings.  No one could make dumplings like Mother.

Mom told us this over and over.  “Pass and Repass”  She lived by that moto.  People would say or do hurtful things but Mom always took the high road.  She wanted us to take the high road as well.

She would stop in grocery stores and speak to strangers and start up a conversation.  She never met anyone that was a stranger to her.  The surprising thing is that everyone seemed to like this.

If she had something she wanted her kids to know, she would call one and tell them it was a secret so she would have time to tell the others before the news got around.

She has been a hard worker all her life.   Mom knew what it meant to have a hard days work,   both at home and at work. She lived during the depression and knew what going without meant.  So she was thrifty and conservative in her spending.  She loved finding bargains and she usually could find the bargain in the midst of lots and lots of junk.  I never developed that habit but Mom had it.

Mom would go without when she did not have to.

Mother loved to giggle.  Just give her any excuse.  She had a great sense of humor.

She loves the babies.  And all the babies love her.  Her grands and great grands love to get up in her lap.  She never tires of them.

Mom never drank alcohol, smoked or cussed.  She always tried to lead a virtuous life..  She has been an example to all of us.

Mama stayed away from drama, gossip and making negative remarks about people.  Live and let live.  Judging other people just wasn’t part of her make up.

Mom loved her Mother, PawPaw Britnell and her five sisters and one brother.  As far as I know she never talked back to PawPaw and MawMaw to this day.  She tried to stay out of family disagreements and always looked on the positive side no matter who was involved.

She and my Aunt Estelle had a secret that they would not tell to anyone.  They would giggle about it.  None of us know what it was even though we tried to get it out of them with NO success.

Until she got beyond travel, Mom would try to go to Alabama and see her family every year.

Mom had her style.  She knew what she liked and she liked her clothes and shoes.  Sometimes she would look everywhere for a piece of clothing.  Oh, and she didn’t like to pay too much for it.  She would but it needed to be the “right” thing.  She could go in a store and find the perfect thing among racks and racks of clothes.

Over the past several years, dementia has robbed my Mom and us of so many of her personality traits.  One thing has never changed and that is her sweetness and kindness to those around her.

Mom is a great woman and witness of God.  She loved to sing gospels to us.  Her faith was in God.  She and my Aunt Estelle helped build the first pentecostal Church (Fayette Church of God) where she grew up.  They both got out and sold flavoring house to house and did other things to raise the money for the Church.  I think Mom is the last charter member of that Church still alive today.  She loved visiting the Church when we went back there.

There are so many other virtues and memories that I have of my Mother.  No matter what any of us had going, my Mom has been there to support us.

Mom is  a woman that gave of her love and time to everyone she came in contact with.  Love you Mom

America – Repent and Turn to God

June 11, 2014
2 Chronicles 7:14

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

I love this verse.  It has come to mean so much to me over the years.  I can remember years ago praying this scripture at one of our evening prayer meetings.  I see it on FB as from time to time someone feels led to post it.

My heart is broken as I realize what is happening in America.  The hedge of protection has been taken down because our people (Americans) have turned from God and brought incredible judgement our way.  I remember 9/11 and 7 years later the stock market plunge.  And still our leaders both in Washington, our political leaders in our state and our spiritual leaders have NOT turned and called for repentance for our sins across America.  Yes, there are some watchmen voicing and calling for repentance but only a few are heading their warning.

So, I shall add my voice to the fray.  IT IS TIME TO TURN AND REMEMBER GOD.  REMEMBER WHERE HE HAS BROUGHT US FROM.  REMEMBER HIS PROTECTION AND HOW MANY TIMES HE HAS DELIVERED AMERICA.

I pray it is not too late.  After 9/11 our churches were full for a few weeks but as time passed and no new tragedies, Americans returned to life as usual.

The scripture I spoke of is probably the best known and most loved verse in Chronicles.  God gave Israel a plan to turn around and acknowledge Him.  If a nation is to experience His blessing, then it is a simple blueprint.

If we are to be granted a heaven-sent revival then we must do as He says.  This scripture talks to His people.  His chosen ones.  Those proclaiming themselves to be Christians.

Those who have been chosen to be his people must cease from their sins, turn from living lives of being  proud and self-centered, pray to the Lord, and yield their desires to his Word and His will. Then, and only then, will he grant heaven-sent revival.

It starts in the Church.  What is the recipe:

1.  Who are “my people”.  We the Church are His people.  We the covenant people are called. We are His People. We are called by His Name.

2.  If MY PEOPLE WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME-  Whose name?  God’s name.  “I am”, Adonai, and on and on.  We are called by His Name.

3.  Humble Ourselves:  We live in a world full of pride and it’s about “me” generations.  Turn to God, to His Word, to His Will.  Only then can we see ourselves reflected in God.

4.  Seek His Face:  Make it all about Him.  Go before Him and stay there until you hear from heaven.

5.  Turn from your wicked ways:  Repent-  Let God’s Word be at the forefront of your thoughts and your deeds.

6.  And PRAY:   I don’t think this is talking about your Now I lay me down to sleep prayers, but the kind of prayer where you get serious with God, meditate and allow God to speak to you.  I’ve known these types of prayer.  Heart, gut wrenching prayers that lead to change in your own life.

7.  Expect Revival:  then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

I could go on and on but I will stop with this.  We are living in the end times.  I believe this with all my heart.  It’s time to get serious with God.  One on One and he will hear us and bring revival, first to your heart, to my heart, to the church and then to our nation.

Luke 1:37

King James Version (KJV)

37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

Nothing is impossible with God.  NOTHING.  No matter where you are in your walk with God, you can count on His Word.

Blogging again..

April 7, 2014

It has been forever since I have blogged anything. Much of that time has been spent dealing with health issues that have silenced my voice. When I start to think about writing something I find myself dealing with pain and more pain, yet, I want to share what I am seeing in America. Everyone seems to have an opinion and that is just what this is, MY opinion.

I believe that God will soon be coming back for his bride, the Church. I must ask the question,”am I really ready to meet him or have I been silenced by health and pain issues?” Oh yes, I still point out issues from time to time but am I his witness and have I picked up my cross to follow him only to sit right back down. Disappointed in myself does not describe how I feel. So I pick up from here and begin what I started a couple of years ago. To have a voice and to use it to help those that I can before Christ comes to get us.

So where to start?? I spend hours researching prophecy and current events. Sometimes I read things as much as 4 or 5 times until I can force myself to focus. So I must focus. Focus on God’s Word, focus on God’s truth and focus on what is happening in our world.

See you in future posts…

Charlie Sheen

March 14, 2011

Watching Charlie Sheen’s  melt down is not funny nor should it continue to be publicly newsworthy, yet here we are blogging and continuing to write about him.  If you are driving down the interstate and there is a car wreck everything slows down to a crawl because everyone passing has to have a look.  Charlie is like that in the real sense of the word.  He is a man caught in a trap of his own making.  It is painful to see and watch yet the whole world watches in awe as he races to what appears to be certain destruction.

We see his rantings and rages and it evokes emotions  of  humor, disgust, anger and feelings that he is getting what he deserves.  The truth is that Charlie Sheen needs help and he deserves to get it.  Charlie Sheen needs prayer.  I feel for his family  that would certainly do something to stop him if they could.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Charlie is willing to listen to them.

I have had family members and friends who have been on a path of destruction but refuse to listen.  You want to wrap your arms around them and love them stopping them from any more foolish behavior.

Charlie seems bent on racing toward his end and doing it publicly unlike a lot of celebrities and non celebrities alike.  With each passing day he seems to be picking up speed and those around him either won’t intervene or can’t.  Who can forget other celebrities like John Belushi, Chris Farley, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain who met with  premature death to name a few.

This is all so sad to watch. Most self-destructive human beings quietly pass away in a smoke-filled drunken haze or are found the next morning by their families. To see a man completely disintegrate in a screaming free fall is more than unnerving. It is gut-wrenching.

I do not want to  judge Charlie Sheen or condemn him in any way.  I think he is a great actor and God loves him just as he loves you and me.  God is wanting the best for him.  My choice of action is to pray for him.   I pray that God would allow someone to come along who can help Charlie calm the tempest that rages in his soul. My thought is to start a circle of prayer for Charlie Sheen asking God to impart angels on his behalf.

I wish I could advise Charlie, I would tell  him how to find Jesus who would help him through the storms he is facing.  Jesus  would give him the peace he deserves and help him apply the brakes to his head long race  of destruction.

Charlie, I give you Jesus.  He is your answer.

Encouragement

February 1, 2011

Hi my friends,
Sometimes it seems like I have been in training for this hour on this day at this time.  I think about a friend who has gone on to be with the Lord now, George Atkins.   I mention him often as he had a wonderful intercessory prayer ministry at the end of his life.  I counted on his prayers.  As time goes along, I know more and more how important it is to pray and seek God’s face.  Prayer begins the process of Victory in our lives.

One of my devotions  that comes to my email box  was from David Wilkerson.  Here is a little excerpt from that devotion and a link to the whole thing if you want to go there online and read it.

GOD’S SPECIAL FORCES

You’ve heard of the U.S. Army’s Special Forces—a highly trained army-within-an-army, an elite unit of dedicated soldiers. Special Forces are made up completely of volunteers, fighters who have been noticed and called out
by their superiors.

God has been at work in the heavenlies on a covert operation. He’s raising up an army-within-an-army, searching his regular troops to form an elite unit of volunteers. This special force is made up of warriors he can touch and stir, to
do battle with the enemy. We see a picture of this in the Bible, with Saul’s special militia. The Word tells us, “There went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched” (I Samuel 10:26).

“The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits” (Daniel 11:32).

“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

That holds a wonderful Message.  We are in God’s Army and we should renew our strength and encourage ourselves through Prayer and  reading God’s Word.

A few weeks ago  I was listening to Joel Olsteen preach talking about  having a NOW faith –  Asking God to do it right now.  Send prosperity NOW – Send healing NOW – It is okay to be bold like David and say God “I am expecting God to do something now”.    Jesus talked about the Centurion – “I have not seen this much faith in all of Israel”  God I am asking you  to do it for me today.  He said most people had future faith – faith to believe for future miracles – future healing’s – future deliverance’s.  He said we should  switch back to NOW faith –  Asking God to send breakthroughs NOW – When u release that NOW faith the NOW blessings will come about.  Send favor today, send prosperity today – U stay in the NOW.  When we don’t see the prayers we are asking for we should just keep getting up every day and start again.asking God to do it NOW.

I am not sure that I remembered this just as he said it but I liked this encouragement.  That we should stir ourselves and keep and create  an expectancy in our own heart – the drive and the passion to keep expecting God to answer our prayers.  That it matters to God how we pray and that we should have an attitude of expectancy  believing that this could be the day.  We should be on the lookout for the answer to prayer NOW.

We do meet plenty of doubters don’t we.  They are on every hand.  Doubt can come at us in waves.  In the still of the night when we get still from the day’s activities and our minds wonder.  So how do we combat this doubt.  I think Joel may have touched on it. – We can continue every day by starting the day believing and asking afresh that God answer our prayer NOW.

TODAY could  be the day.  Stay in faith when it’s taking a long time. – Every day tell yourself – this could be the Day
Wait with expectancy –  Ask God every day to send favor NOW –  send break through NOW – Believe to see the goodness of God  NOW

I like that concept – NOW FAITH –  LIVING WITH THIS NOW FAITH –   Don’t get discouraged and think in future faith
Look into the unseen realm  – God will release His goodness.  Stay in faith.  Suddenly you will see what is happening behind the scenes and God’s deliverance will surely come TODAY.

I want you to know that my intent is to encourage you with this blog.  I am asking God to give me something to say to you – something to lift your spirits – some Word that will keep you going.  Something to build your faith in your time of need – on this day and in this hour.  In doing so, God also lifts my spirits.

Here is an Irish blessing that I received by email some some time ago.  Be blessed and Have a great day.

This is worth the watch.   Beautiful!  Turn up the sound…..

Using our Voice for God’s purpose

October 2, 2010

For some time now, the Holy Spirit has been dealing with me on our Voice and how we can use our voice for God’s purposes.

Recently, I had the opportunity to present a program to the Hanna Sisters and spoke about finding and using our voice for God’s purpose for our lives. I hope you may find something useful here.

Opening Prayer: Shall we Pray: Father God, Holy Spirit, I thank you for this opportunity to speak to these ladies today. I thank you that you have given me some seeds to sow into their lives and I pray that you will let them fall on fertile ground. I ask you to anoint your Hand maiden this morning with your Spirit. Touch my lips, my mind and my body to deliver what YOU and you alone desire to be communicated this morning. Touch every ear and human spirit gathered here today to receive what they need to hear. In Jesus Name Amen
“One word expresses the pathway to the understanding of life’s purpose and I believe that word is “voice”. Those on this path find their voice and inspire others to find theirs. Those who do not are missing a great joy of knowing that they are being the person that God intends for them.

What is our voice? We are born with our voice. One of the first things a Doctor looks for as a sign of life is the cry from a baby. We begin using our voices as we begin to talk and say our first words. The power to discover our voices lies in the potential that was bequeathed to you at birth. Latent and undeveloped, the seeds of greatness were planted by our creator. You were given magnificent “birth-gifts”-talents, capacities, privileges, intelligences, opportunities-that remain unopened except through your own decision and effort to open them.

For instance, I have met so many people who were blessed with singing talents but chose not to develop them. One friend of mine told me that she was anointed to sing but she did not take the opportunity to train and use the gift that she was given. She told me that she began losing that gift because she did not use it. In life we struggle to use our gifts, our talents in school, on the job and whatever we choose to do and also how we choose to live our lives.

Our voices can be used for good and for evil. Anyone who has ever been in an argument with someone knows how easy we can use our voice to cut or demean someone. We can say I love you one minute and then in the next “I hate you” to the same person. We are the one’s that determine how we use our voices.

When we think about finding our voices four questions come to mind.

1.  What are you good at?
2.  What do you love doing?
3.  What need can you serve?
4.  And finally, what is life asking of you? What gives your life meaning and purpose? What do you feel like you should be doing? In short, what is your conscience directing you to do? What is God speaking to you.

I believe that our voice is the overlapping of the THREE parts of our nature:which is our body, our soul and our spirit. I have a teaching on the body, soul and spirit. To KNOW our voice we also have to know our body, soul and our spirit. I don’t want to go into the full teaching on this today but briefly our body, our soul and our spirit consists of the trinity nature of man.

Man is a triune being because he is created in the image of God. “God said, Let us make man in Our image” (Genesis 1:26). We know that God is a Trinity. The Holy Trinity is clearly set forth in the Apostle Paul’s benediction that closed his II Corinthian Epistle:

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen” (2 Corinthians 13:14).

Our Lord Himself said, in what we call “The Great Commission”: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19). Created in the image of God, man is likewise a trinity. He has a spiritual nature that is separate and distinct from the body in which it dwells.

I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow (body), and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).

The Bible states emphatically that man was created a trinity of spirit, soul, and body even as the eternal God is Himself a trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. The trinity of man is an essential part of the image relationship between him and God. Life is not just about the physical and the body is not the whole man. And we might add that neither the body in itself, nor the soul in itself, nor the spirit in itself makes up the whole man, but he is “spirit and soul and body.”

Body, Soul and Spirit

This is the area we are most familiar with. Our aches our pains are often at the forefront of our topics of conversation especially the older we become. This is our “flesh”. Pinch yourself and if you hurt then you know what the body is.

We listen to our bodies. Our aches, our pains. Our bodies effect our voice. Someone who is dealing with pain issues or disabilities or health issues of any kind will tell you that these things impact their voice and what they can and cannot do in the day-to-day living of their lives.
The Spirit

The word “spirit” when used in the Scriptures has several meanings. Whenever the word “Spirit” appears used with a capital letter, it has but one meaning. It is the name of the third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit of God. The word “spirit” spelled with a small letter may have one of several different meanings. It can have direct reference to the spirit of man who is as much a part of the tripartite nature of man as the Spirit of the living God is a Person of the Holy Trinity. Or it can indicate an evil spirit such as any agent of the Devil. We will confine ourselves here to the Biblical usage of the word only as it relates to the spirit of man, one of the three constitute parts of his being.

In his unfallen state the ‘spirit’ of man was illuminated from Heaven, but when the human race fell in Adam, sin closed the window of the spirit, pulled down the curtain, and the chamber of the spirit became a death chamber and remains so in every unregenerate heart, until the Life and Light giving power of the Holy Spirit floods that chamber with the Life and Light giving power of the new life in Christ Jesus.

I said all that to make this point. The spirit of man, being the sphere of God-consciousness, is the inner or private office of man where the work of regeneration takes place. The Apostle Paul gives us the Word of God on this, a passage that I love. Quoting from the sixty-fourth chapter of the book of the Prophet Isaiah, Paul wrote:

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.

A great many people stop here, content to remain in ignorance. However, Paul continues:

But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit; for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:9-11)

As we listen to God through our spirits this impacts our voice. The more we listen to the Holy Spirit the more our spirits will become strengthened and able to sway the mind and the body.
The Soul

We not only have a spirit but we also have a soul. . The Bible says: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7). We must be careful not to confound that which is truly spiritual and that which is merely soulish. We have seen that the spirit of man is the sphere of activity where the Holy Spirit operates in regeneration. Just so is the soul the sphere of activity where Satan operates making his appeal to the affections and emotions of man. So the soul then involves our emotions.

It is in the soul where fleshly lusts, desires, and appetites arise:

Abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul (Peter 2:11).

These lusts war against the soul. We are in a battle. The flesh pulls our soul one way and the spirit renewed through the Holy Spirit pulls us toward the purposes of God.

As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country (Proverbs 25:25).

It shall be even as when a hungry man dreameth, and behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty; or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite (Isaiah 29:8).

Isaiah made it clear that the soul has an appetite. When our spirit becomes regenerated then our souls and our appetites change and begin to seek God.

In that immortal classic of the Psalms, David says: “He restoreth my soul” (Psalm 23:3). The Hebrew word translated “restoreth” is said to mean quite literally “turneth back.” At no time had David lost his salvation, but there were times when his affections and desires were turned from the Lord, as in the case of his sin with Bathsheba. Having become one of the Divine Shepherd’s flock, he testified: “The Lord turneth back my soul.” The Christian who is enjoying unbroken communion with his Lord will then be able to say, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name” (Psalm 103:1).
Our voices are effected by our Soul.

If you learn what taps your talents and fuels your passion-that rises out of a great need in the world that you feel drawn by conscience to meet-therein lies your voice, your calling, your soul’s code.

This morning I hope to challenge you to find your voice and use it for God’s purpose for your life.  People are internally motivated by their own needs: to live, to love, to learn, to leave a legacy. When they overlap, you have found what I like to call your “voice” This is your calling, your soul’s code.
You hear people who say that they knew from the time that they were a child that they wanted to be an actress or politician or nurse or Dr. From a young age they just knew. Other’s try different things and don’t really seem to know what their voice should be.

I think that it can happen all at once, but more so, I think that finding your voice is an evolving process. As people grow up, they are exposed to different fields of knowledge and different experiences. They don’t yet know what they’re good at or even what they will like doing. Once they have this exposure and education and they start getting involved, they start to find satisfaction, and that leads to success as it begins to give them a sense of their voice or what they really love doing that they do well. For some people, it does comes like a flash of light, but it is usually preceded by someone who really deeply believes in them-sees their strengths and affirms them when they don’t see their own potential themselves. This creates an opportunity for that voice to be developed and expressed.

Also, as our circumstances in life change so do our voices.   What we did or wanted to do when we were younger and raising children or working changes when we have grandchildren. The truth is that life happens. Health issues, deaths in our families and job situations cause you to reevaluate our “voice” as we go throughout life. Our opportunities to use our voice changes.

May God help you to use your voice for his purposes.

Living life in the Word of God

July 30, 2010

When I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior,  I knew something wonderful had taken place and that I was not the same person that  I was before – I was forgiven. I had become, as the Bible said, a new creature in Christ Jesus. And I found out that I had become an heir of God and a joint heir with Jesus Christ! This simply meant that I was no longer alone or on my own but I belonged to a calling to live my life as a believer in Jesus as my savior.  I became a child of God.

Realize that there is  redemptive work of the cross, in the shedding of  Blood the Lord Jesus Christ, paid the price for the forgiving of sin as well as the healing of our whole being, spirit, soul and body.

This act of Jesus going to the cross and shedding His Blood was an enacting of a covenant with God the Father in His own Blood.   What does that mean for you and for me?  In simply means that Jesus is saying to those who are born-again: “all that I am and all that I have is given unto you.” Wow! That is powerful isn’t it?

What was Jesus saying? I have come to give you my best of who I am and what I have, and My will is that you would experience it in your life every day of every hour.  And he left us his Words to help us in this endeavor.

Real success in life comes from knowing and acting upon the Word of God.   Joshua 1:8 says:

“This Book of the Law [the Word of God] shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

I don’t think that this means that you will not be faced with crisis but when they come there will be a way through all these circumstances that confront you.  What are you confronted with this morning.  You may be facing a crisis now or know a friend or family member who is facing the  loss of  a job, financial turmoil, health issues, death, and on and on.

It is so important to spend our lives as Joshua indicated.  Keep God’s Word ever before your eyes and on your tongue.  I can’t tell you the times I fall down in this area.  It is so easy to become despondant or worried or just negative.  Life throws pitfalls at you.  I have been recently reminded of when my Father was dying of cancer.  I did not handle it very well.  Instead of confronting the pain and face what was happening I pushed it out of my life and basically handled it by pushing it away.  That was my way of dealing with it.  How many of us do the same thing when confronted with the challenges life throws at us.

Making the choice that you will be a “Word” person might label you an extremist but there are worse things to be labeled.  You can just decide if things in your life don’t line up with the word then you are commited to believing what God says.  Our God always performs His Word.  You can count on that.

Our enimies are fear, doubt and unbelief.  Remember that your words are powerful and ““Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Proverbs 18:21

Here are a few scriptures that help me to know God’s will for my life  and for you too.

“I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

“God has not given me a spirit of fear, but one of power, love and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy1:7)

“God always causes me to triumph in Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 2:14)

“Christ Jesus has become for me wisdom from God.” (1 Corinthians 1:30) and “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)

“With His stripes I am healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) and Jesus “Himself took my infirmities and bore my sickness.” (Matthew 8:17)

“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (2 Corinthians 3:17) and “My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 6:19)

I am “Casting all my cares upon Him who cares for me.” (1 Peter 5:7)

“There is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1) I am in Christ, so therefore I am free from condemnation!

“I am with you always, even till the end of the age [forever].” (Matthew 28:20) and “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

“Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for me: that the blessings of Abraham might come upon the gentiles [that’s me] through Jesus Christ: That we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:13-14

“I have learned in whatever state (circumstances) I am, to be content.” (Philippians 4:11)

“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

“God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” (1 Corinthians 14:33) and “We have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” (1 Corinthians 2:12)

“If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

“The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)

“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; For the LORD will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught.” (Proverbs 3:24-26)

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” (Isaiah 26:3)

“As it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.” (1 Cor 2:9-10)

Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:3)

Be Blessed and Be a Blessing.
