Charlie Sheen

March 14, 2011

Watching Charlie Sheen’s  melt down is not funny nor should it continue to be publicly newsworthy, yet here we are blogging and continuing to write about him.  If you are driving down the interstate and there is a car wreck everything slows down to a crawl because everyone passing has to have a look.  Charlie is like that in the real sense of the word.  He is a man caught in a trap of his own making.  It is painful to see and watch yet the whole world watches in awe as he races to what appears to be certain destruction.

We see his rantings and rages and it evokes emotions  of  humor, disgust, anger and feelings that he is getting what he deserves.  The truth is that Charlie Sheen needs help and he deserves to get it.  Charlie Sheen needs prayer.  I feel for his family  that would certainly do something to stop him if they could.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Charlie is willing to listen to them.

I have had family members and friends who have been on a path of destruction but refuse to listen.  You want to wrap your arms around them and love them stopping them from any more foolish behavior.

Charlie seems bent on racing toward his end and doing it publicly unlike a lot of celebrities and non celebrities alike.  With each passing day he seems to be picking up speed and those around him either won’t intervene or can’t.  Who can forget other celebrities like John Belushi, Chris Farley, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain who met with  premature death to name a few.

This is all so sad to watch. Most self-destructive human beings quietly pass away in a smoke-filled drunken haze or are found the next morning by their families. To see a man completely disintegrate in a screaming free fall is more than unnerving. It is gut-wrenching.

I do not want to  judge Charlie Sheen or condemn him in any way.  I think he is a great actor and God loves him just as he loves you and me.  God is wanting the best for him.  My choice of action is to pray for him.   I pray that God would allow someone to come along who can help Charlie calm the tempest that rages in his soul. My thought is to start a circle of prayer for Charlie Sheen asking God to impart angels on his behalf.

I wish I could advise Charlie, I would tell  him how to find Jesus who would help him through the storms he is facing.  Jesus  would give him the peace he deserves and help him apply the brakes to his head long race  of destruction.

Charlie, I give you Jesus.  He is your answer.

Encouragement

February 1, 2011

Hi my friends,
Sometimes it seems like I have been in training for this hour on this day at this time.  I think about a friend who has gone on to be with the Lord now, George Atkins.   I mention him often as he had a wonderful intercessory prayer ministry at the end of his life.  I counted on his prayers.  As time goes along, I know more and more how important it is to pray and seek God’s face.  Prayer begins the process of Victory in our lives.

One of my devotions  that comes to my email box  was from David Wilkerson.  Here is a little excerpt from that devotion and a link to the whole thing if you want to go there online and read it.

GOD’S SPECIAL FORCES

You’ve heard of the U.S. Army’s Special Forces—a highly trained army-within-an-army, an elite unit of dedicated soldiers. Special Forces are made up completely of volunteers, fighters who have been noticed and called out
by their superiors.

God has been at work in the heavenlies on a covert operation. He’s raising up an army-within-an-army, searching his regular troops to form an elite unit of volunteers. This special force is made up of warriors he can touch and stir, to
do battle with the enemy. We see a picture of this in the Bible, with Saul’s special militia. The Word tells us, “There went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched” (I Samuel 10:26).

“The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits” (Daniel 11:32).

“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

That holds a wonderful Message.  We are in God’s Army and we should renew our strength and encourage ourselves through Prayer and  reading God’s Word.

A few weeks ago  I was listening to Joel Olsteen preach talking about  having a NOW faith -  Asking God to do it right now.  Send prosperity NOW – Send healing NOW – It is okay to be bold like David and say God “I am expecting God to do something now”.    Jesus talked about the Centurion – “I have not seen this much faith in all of Israel”  God I am asking you  to do it for me today.  He said most people had future faith – faith to believe for future miracles – future healing’s – future deliverance’s.  He said we should  switch back to NOW faith -  Asking God to send breakthroughs NOW – When u release that NOW faith the NOW blessings will come about.  Send favor today, send prosperity today – U stay in the NOW.  When we don’t see the prayers we are asking for we should just keep getting up every day and start again.asking God to do it NOW.

I am not sure that I remembered this just as he said it but I liked this encouragement.  That we should stir ourselves and keep and create  an expectancy in our own heart – the drive and the passion to keep expecting God to answer our prayers.  That it matters to God how we pray and that we should have an attitude of expectancy  believing that this could be the day.  We should be on the lookout for the answer to prayer NOW.

We do meet plenty of doubters don’t we.  They are on every hand.  Doubt can come at us in waves.  In the still of the night when we get still from the day’s activities and our minds wonder.  So how do we combat this doubt.  I think Joel may have touched on it. – We can continue every day by starting the day believing and asking afresh that God answer our prayer NOW.

TODAY could  be the day.  Stay in faith when it’s taking a long time. – Every day tell yourself – this could be the Day
Wait with expectancy -  Ask God every day to send favor NOW -  send break through NOW – Believe to see the goodness of God  NOW

I like that concept – NOW FAITH -  LIVING WITH THIS NOW FAITH -   Don’t get discouraged and think in future faith
Look into the unseen realm  – God will release His goodness.  Stay in faith.  Suddenly you will see what is happening behind the scenes and God’s deliverance will surely come TODAY.

I want you to know that my intent is to encourage you with this blog.  I am asking God to give me something to say to you – something to lift your spirits – some Word that will keep you going.  Something to build your faith in your time of need – on this day and in this hour.  In doing so, God also lifts my spirits.

Here is an Irish blessing that I received by email some some time ago.  Be blessed and Have a great day.

This is worth the watch.   Beautiful!  Turn up the sound…..

Using our Voice for God’s purpose

October 2, 2010

For some time now, the Holy Spirit has been dealing with me on our Voice and how we can use our voice for God’s purposes.

Recently, I had the opportunity to present a program to the Hanna Sisters and spoke about finding and using our voice for God’s purpose for our lives. I hope you may find something useful here.

Opening Prayer: Shall we Pray: Father God, Holy Spirit, I thank you for this opportunity to speak to these ladies today. I thank you that you have given me some seeds to sow into their lives and I pray that you will let them fall on fertile ground. I ask you to anoint your Hand maiden this morning with your Spirit. Touch my lips, my mind and my body to deliver what YOU and you alone desire to be communicated this morning. Touch every ear and human spirit gathered here today to receive what they need to hear. In Jesus Name Amen
“One word expresses the pathway to the understanding of life’s purpose and I believe that word is “voice”. Those on this path find their voice and inspire others to find theirs. Those who do not are missing a great joy of knowing that they are being the person that God intends for them.

What is our voice? We are born with our voice. One of the first things a Doctor looks for as a sign of life is the cry from a baby. We begin using our voices as we begin to talk and say our first words. The power to discover our voices lies in the potential that was bequeathed to you at birth. Latent and undeveloped, the seeds of greatness were planted by our creator. You were given magnificent “birth-gifts”-talents, capacities, privileges, intelligences, opportunities-that remain unopened except through your own decision and effort to open them.

For instance, I have met so many people who were blessed with singing talents but chose not to develop them. One friend of mine told me that she was anointed to sing but she did not take the opportunity to train and use the gift that she was given. She told me that she began losing that gift because she did not use it. In life we struggle to use our gifts, our talents in school, on the job and whatever we choose to do and also how we choose to live our lives.

Our voices can be used for good and for evil. Anyone who has ever been in an argument with someone knows how easy we can use our voice to cut or demean someone. We can say I love you one minute and then in the next “I hate you” to the same person. We are the one’s that determine how we use our voices.

When we think about finding our voices four questions come to mind.

1.  What are you good at?
2.  What do you love doing?
3.  What need can you serve?
4.  And finally, what is life asking of you? What gives your life meaning and purpose? What do you feel like you should be doing? In short, what is your conscience directing you to do? What is God speaking to you.

I believe that our voice is the overlapping of the THREE parts of our nature:which is our body, our soul and our spirit. I have a teaching on the body, soul and spirit. To KNOW our voice we also have to know our body, soul and our spirit. I don’t want to go into the full teaching on this today but briefly our body, our soul and our spirit consists of the trinity nature of man.

Man is a triune being because he is created in the image of God. “God said, Let us make man in Our image” (Genesis 1:26). We know that God is a Trinity. The Holy Trinity is clearly set forth in the Apostle Paul’s benediction that closed his II Corinthian Epistle:

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen” (2 Corinthians 13:14).

Our Lord Himself said, in what we call “The Great Commission”: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19). Created in the image of God, man is likewise a trinity. He has a spiritual nature that is separate and distinct from the body in which it dwells.

I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow (body), and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).

The Bible states emphatically that man was created a trinity of spirit, soul, and body even as the eternal God is Himself a trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. The trinity of man is an essential part of the image relationship between him and God. Life is not just about the physical and the body is not the whole man. And we might add that neither the body in itself, nor the soul in itself, nor the spirit in itself makes up the whole man, but he is “spirit and soul and body.”

Body, Soul and Spirit

The Body

This is the area we are most familiar with. Our aches our pains are often at the forefront of our topics of conversation especially the older we become. This is our “flesh”. Pinch yourself and if you hurt then you know what the body is.

We listen to our bodies. Our aches, our pains. Our bodies effect our voice. Someone who is dealing with pain issues or disabilities or health issues of any kind will tell you that these things impact their voice and what they can and cannot do in the day-to-day living of their lives.
The Spirit

The word “spirit” when used in the Scriptures has several meanings. Whenever the word “Spirit” appears used with a capital letter, it has but one meaning. It is the name of the third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit of God. The word “spirit” spelled with a small letter may have one of several different meanings. It can have direct reference to the spirit of man who is as much a part of the tripartite nature of man as the Spirit of the living God is a Person of the Holy Trinity. Or it can indicate an evil spirit such as any agent of the Devil. We will confine ourselves here to the Biblical usage of the word only as it relates to the spirit of man, one of the three constitute parts of his being.

In his unfallen state the ‘spirit’ of man was illuminated from Heaven, but when the human race fell in Adam, sin closed the window of the spirit, pulled down the curtain, and the chamber of the spirit became a death chamber and remains so in every unregenerate heart, until the Life and Light giving power of the Holy Spirit floods that chamber with the Life and Light giving power of the new life in Christ Jesus.

I said all that to make this point. The spirit of man, being the sphere of God-consciousness, is the inner or private office of man where the work of regeneration takes place. The Apostle Paul gives us the Word of God on this, a passage that I love. Quoting from the sixty-fourth chapter of the book of the Prophet Isaiah, Paul wrote:

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.

A great many people stop here, content to remain in ignorance. However, Paul continues:

But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit; for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:9-11)

As we listen to God through our spirits this impacts our voice. The more we listen to the Holy Spirit the more our spirits will become strengthened and able to sway the mind and the body.
The Soul

We not only have a spirit but we also have a soul. . The Bible says: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7). We must be careful not to confound that which is truly spiritual and that which is merely soulish. We have seen that the spirit of man is the sphere of activity where the Holy Spirit operates in regeneration. Just so is the soul the sphere of activity where Satan operates making his appeal to the affections and emotions of man. So the soul then involves our emotions.

It is in the soul where fleshly lusts, desires, and appetites arise:

Abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul (Peter 2:11).

These lusts war against the soul. We are in a battle. The flesh pulls our soul one way and the spirit renewed through the Holy Spirit pulls us toward the purposes of God.

As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country (Proverbs 25:25).

It shall be even as when a hungry man dreameth, and behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty; or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite (Isaiah 29:8).

Isaiah made it clear that the soul has an appetite. When our spirit becomes regenerated then our souls and our appetites change and begin to seek God.

In that immortal classic of the Psalms, David says: “He restoreth my soul” (Psalm 23:3). The Hebrew word translated “restoreth” is said to mean quite literally “turneth back.” At no time had David lost his salvation, but there were times when his affections and desires were turned from the Lord, as in the case of his sin with Bathsheba. Having become one of the Divine Shepherd’s flock, he testified: “The Lord turneth back my soul.” The Christian who is enjoying unbroken communion with his Lord will then be able to say, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name” (Psalm 103:1).
Our voices are effected by our Soul.

If you learn what taps your talents and fuels your passion-that rises out of a great need in the world that you feel drawn by conscience to meet-therein lies your voice, your calling, your soul’s code.

This morning I hope to challenge you to find your voice and use it for God’s purpose for your life.  People are internally motivated by their own needs: to live, to love, to learn, to leave a legacy. When they overlap, you have found what I like to call your “voice” This is your calling, your soul’s code.
You hear people who say that they knew from the time that they were a child that they wanted to be an actress or politician or nurse or Dr. From a young age they just knew. Other’s try different things and don’t really seem to know what their voice should be.

I think that it can happen all at once, but more so, I think that finding your voice is an evolving process. As people grow up, they are exposed to different fields of knowledge and different experiences. They don’t yet know what they’re good at or even what they will like doing. Once they have this exposure and education and they start getting involved, they start to find satisfaction, and that leads to success as it begins to give them a sense of their voice or what they really love doing that they do well. For some people, it does comes like a flash of light, but it is usually preceded by someone who really deeply believes in them-sees their strengths and affirms them when they don’t see their own potential themselves. This creates an opportunity for that voice to be developed and expressed.

Also, as our circumstances in life change so do our voices.   What we did or wanted to do when we were younger and raising children or working changes when we have grandchildren. The truth is that life happens. Health issues, deaths in our families and job situations cause you to reevaluate our “voice” as we go throughout life. Our opportunities to use our voice changes.

May God help you to use your voice for his purposes.

Living life in the Word of God

July 30, 2010

When I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior,  I knew something wonderful had taken place and that I was not the same person that  I was before – I was forgiven. I had become, as the Bible said, a new creature in Christ Jesus. And I found out that I had become an heir of God and a joint heir with Jesus Christ! This simply meant that I was no longer alone or on my own but I belonged to a calling to live my life as a believer in Jesus as my savior.  I became a child of God.

Realize that there is  redemptive work of the cross, in the shedding of  Blood the Lord Jesus Christ, paid the price for the forgiving of sin as well as the healing of our whole being, spirit, soul and body.

This act of Jesus going to the cross and shedding His Blood was an enacting of a covenant with God the Father in His own Blood.   What does that mean for you and for me?  In simply means that Jesus is saying to those who are born-again: “all that I am and all that I have is given unto you.” Wow! That is powerful isn’t it?

What was Jesus saying? I have come to give you my best of who I am and what I have, and My will is that you would experience it in your life every day of every hour.  And he left us his Words to help us in this endeavor.

Real success in life comes from knowing and acting upon the Word of God.   Joshua 1:8 says:

“This Book of the Law [the Word of God] shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

I don’t think that this means that you will not be faced with crisis but when they come there will be a way through all these circumstances that confront you.  What are you confronted with this morning.  You may be facing a crisis now or know a friend or family member who is facing the  loss of  a job, financial turmoil, health issues, death, and on and on.

It is so important to spend our lives as Joshua indicated.  Keep God’s Word ever before your eyes and on your tongue.  I can’t tell you the times I fall down in this area.  It is so easy to become despondant or worried or just negative.  Life throws pitfalls at you.  I have been recently reminded of when my Father was dying of cancer.  I did not handle it very well.  Instead of confronting the pain and face what was happening I pushed it out of my life and basically handled it by pushing it away.  That was my way of dealing with it.  How many of us do the same thing when confronted with the challenges life throws at us.

Making the choice that you will be a “Word” person might label you an extremist but there are worse things to be labeled.  You can just decide if things in your life don’t line up with the word then you are commited to believing what God says.  Our God always performs His Word.  You can count on that.

Our enimies are fear, doubt and unbelief.  Remember that your words are powerful and ““Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Proverbs 18:21

Here are a few scriptures that help me to know God’s will for my life  and for you too.

“I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

“God has not given me a spirit of fear, but one of power, love and a sound mind.” (2 Timothy1:7)

“God has dealt to each one [every person] a measure of faith.” (Romans 12:3)

“The Lord is the strength of My life” (Psalm 27:1) and “The people that know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits.” (Daniel 11:32)

“Greater is He that is within me than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)

“God always causes me to triumph in Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 2:14)

“Christ Jesus has become for me wisdom from God.” (1 Corinthians 1:30) and “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5)

“With His stripes I am healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) and Jesus “Himself took my infirmities and bore my sickness.” (Matthew 8:17)

“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (2 Corinthians 3:17) and “My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 6:19)

I am “Casting all my cares upon Him who cares for me.” (1 Peter 5:7)

“There is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1) I am in Christ, so therefore I am free from condemnation!

“I am with you always, even till the end of the age [forever].” (Matthew 28:20) and “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

“Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for me: that the blessings of Abraham might come upon the gentiles [that's me] through Jesus Christ: That we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:13-14

“I have learned in whatever state (circumstances) I am, to be content.” (Philippians 4:11)

“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

“God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” (1 Corinthians 14:33) and “We have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.” (1 Corinthians 2:12)

“If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

“The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)

“When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; For the LORD will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught.” (Proverbs 3:24-26)

“In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” (Isaiah 26:3)

“As it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.” (1 Cor 2:9-10)

Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:3)

Be Blessed and Be a Blessing.

Now Faith for the Now generation

Hi my friends,

Sometimes it seems like I have been in training for this hour on this day at this time.  I think about one the the saints in our Church who was a great prayer warrior and has gone on to be with the Lord.  I spoke with him often on the phone and visited him when I could.  Toward the end of his life he was filled with the Spirit of God.  Every time I went to visit him he bubbled over with the Holy Spirit.    I mention him often and his ministry at the end of his life.  I counted on his prayers.

One of my devotions this morning is from David Wilkerson.  Here is a little excerpt from that devotion and a link to the whole thing if you want to go there online and read it.

Hope Hope Hope

July 16, 2010

I have a friend  who has a son with cancer.  For months we have been praying and believing God for his healing.  Todate we have not seen the manifesting of that healing.  This  friend is a mentor and confidant.  We have spent 20 plus years discussing the Word of God.  I sent this email to encourage my friend.

Email:

I am struggling with a cold but your email reminded me of   one of our  discussions regarding hope.  I think we were at the beach and we were talking about your sons and you told me about putting them totally in God’s hands.  You spoke about having confidence of our God.    Anyway, I want to give you a few verses that you know so well.  You have always been an inspiration to me and my heart is with you now.

Hope for Hopeless Situations

Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Hope is precious and priceless. It is divinely powerful. If our heart is full of hope, the future indeed looks bright before us and we see the present as a pathway into God’s good plans for our lives (Jeremiah 29:11). On the other hand, if we lack or lose hope, nothing in the present can console us. All seems lost and thoughts of the future fill us with dread.

The problem with hope

In practical terms the problem with hope is that it is so easily and painfully dashed. Old Job spoke with vehemence about the misery of shattered hope and his torment was magnified because he imagined that God was somehow set against him: He breaks me down on every side, And I am gone; My hope He has uprooted like a tree (Job 19:10). But God is never against us—only against our sins. If He were ever against us, we could have no hope.

I am well acquainted with the problem of hope.  When my nephew was injured and everyone was praying.  We all believed he would be healed and that he would live.  His Father made a statement afterwards.  “I would have changed his diapers for the rest of my life.”  And he and my niece would have.  He was so loved.   If you remember, when my brother  died, I was laying on my face at our Church praying for his life.  And then many years before that my youngest brother Richard was killed in a motorcycle accident.  No one wants to deal with the tragedy’s that life brings.  But we do.  I face the same problems today.  I have felt moved to pray for Mom and command dementia to leave in the face of that debilitating disease.
The heart break comes because His ways are just not our ways, nor His thoughts our thoughts—yet we keep setting our hopes on what we think God will do. Then, when things don’t go as we imagine, our hope crumbles into dust. If this happens often enough we lose heart, become discouraged and join the unhappy throng who try to guard their hearts by not getting their hopes up too high.  Not believing in miracles and  accepting what life and Satan throws at us.  And I dare say, don’t even ask God for the impossible, for miracles.

Hope, Hope, Hope

I am reminded of Romans 8:28. I am so thankful that God inspired Paul to declare that we can know that all things work together for good to those who love God. How do we know this? By faith in God’s Word. If we will just do the hard work of believing (John 6:29), we will discover this incredible word is true. And is it ever dynamite! This one promise alone guarantees our hope—absolutely everything, no matter how bad or bleak it may seem, no matter whether it is in our daily life or our inner life—everything is being made to work for good! Make all of your discouraging thoughts bow before this one and you will never regret it. Cling to it with determined faith and may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).

As Spirit filled believers, we put our hope, our faith and our belief in God.  We believe in miracles, we believe that God is still performing miracles today.  If we have enough faith, enough believing then God’s miracles will become manifest in our lives and our loved one’s lives.  I have been struggling with this question.  Why some are healed and other’s are not.  I don’t believe I have found the answer but I have found a clue.  When I felt the Spirit of the Lord tell me to pray for Mother by speaking to the dementia and telling it to leave  somehow I knew that I needed to continue praying for Mother every day.

I know you are in a battle and I have been searching for answers.  I have been asking God to heal your precious son and I know you have.  The encouragement I want to give you is found in this message that I found on the Internet.  My prayer is that you will find hope, hope, hope.  Here are some excerpts about John G. Lake’s  Ministry and I found it interesting.  He can be looked up on Wikipedia for his biography if interested.

John Lake had one the most miraculous ministries ever seen on this earth.. His ministry to Africa in the early 1900′s, was marked by outstanding manifestations of the Spirit of God and upon his return to Spokane in America, he opened what he termed ‘his healing rooms’ During 5 years of ministry there, over 100,000 recorded miracles and healing’s took place for the glory of God.. Spokane was declared one of the healthiest cities in America, mostly due to Lakes ministry.
There was one thing about his ministry that seems to have been, to a large degree, lost today.. and that is what I call ‘staying in there’ or persistence.. John Lake and the people in the ‘Healing rooms’ would minister to people every day until they were well, or in a position to get well. There is a tendency these days to pray once and if doesn’t happen instantly.. oh well..
“Why is this?” you ask? Why is it people get healed instantly and others not? Lake said  that the healing seems to be dependant on a couple of factors.

One is the amount of faith present and the other is how much of the Spirit of God is also present.. He believed that the Lord Jesus had such absolute faith and the ‘Spirit without measure’ that when Jesus ministered to people, the power of God simply overwhelmed sickness and disease and people were made whole. But even the Lord Jesus ministered to a man twice before he was made whole (blind man example) and the 10 lepers were ‘healed as they went’ The healing manifested as they were obeying the voice of Jesus and on their way to see the priests.
We do not have the ‘Spirit without measure’ as Jesus had. We do have ‘a measure of the Spirit’ that can be increased as our faith and love in Him grows.. Lake would say to people.. ‘Today, you have received a measure of the Spirit of God, so come back tomorrow and receive some more..’ They would pray and minister to people until they got well. Sometimes it was instant, other times it was progressive..
This seems to indicate  what the Lord teaches us about a ‘New Day’ .  We tend to see a day as a continuation of our lives.. and so it is but the Lord see every day as a new day.. He says a lot about it too!
“His mercies are new every morning” (not week)
“This is the day that the Lord has made” (again.. not a week or month)
“Give us this day our daily bread”

This is similar to the teaching of a “New Dimension” with the Lord.  It’s amazing how much power, yesterday and tomorrow have upon our lives. One has gone and the other hasn’t yet arrived. Yet they seem to hold tremendous power over us. That’s why Jesus said “Take no thought for tomorrow..” The apostle Paul said “This one thing I have learned, forgetting those things that are behind” We carry yesterdays baggage with us and then add tomorrows worries and wonder why we struggle through the day!! Have a read..
“His mercies (not mercy) are new every morning” So partake of them everyday!   It is important to continue to minister to people until they are well. If they don’t get it today  pray again tomorrow and so on..  I know Jesus wants to heal people so keep at it until they are  well.. or they give up! No-one, not even God can violate your free will. Jesus said to me once.. “If you don’t give up  neither will I”
If you are not well, then I would suggest you go and receive ministering until you are.. Don’t give up.  Give your willing permission to be ministered too and know that you are prepared to be persistent.
Here’s what Jesus said. “They shall lay hands on the sick and shall recover..” The Amplified version says.. “and they shall get well” Recovering is a process.. If you have been prayed for and hands laid upon you, Jesus said “you are recovering!” What do you believe? we see in James5:14.. “Are there any sick amongst you? (this is written to the church) Then it tell the sick what to do.. ‘Let them call for the elders of the church and let them pray over them anointing them with oil in the name of the lord.. (Now it tells you what will happen) and the prayer of faith (not unbelief) SHALL heal (that is, restore) the sick and lord SHALL raise them up and if they have committed sins, it SHALL be forgiven them” There are 3 ‘Shall’s‘ here.. NO maybes.. If you have been prayed for as above, then the Bible says the Lord SHALL.. heal and restore you.. Raise you up and forgive any sins.. All you have to do is believe what He said.. and give thanks..
“Thankyou Lord for healing me, Thankyou Lord you are raising me up and I am recovering.. I believe you Lord..”
The 4 main things that will stop this from working for you is:
1) Unbelief (no faith)
The Bible says: “Jesus could do no mighty work because of their unbelief” It doesn’t say He ‘wouldn’t‘ ~ It says He ‘couldn’t‘.. “Without faith, it is impossible to please God..” Heb11:3
“All things are possible to him that believes” (has faith). Faith ONLY comes from the Word of God. Just do what God told Joshua to do.. meditate upon the Word of God night and day.. It is just like a seed. It will go down into your heart and start to grow and bring for fruit (Faith is a part of that fruit!) Go and read Mark Chapter 4 and see what Jesus said about ‘sowing the Word of God’
2) Unforgiveness: (not forgiving others)
This will stop the power of God in a persons life faster than anything I have ever come across. Jesus said if you don’t forgive others, your Father in Heaven won’t forgive you!! Everybody loves Mark11:23 and 24.. but it also comes with verse 25.. “and when you stand praying, forgive.. if you have anything against anyone..”

3) Being completely out of the will of God:
You can be completely out of the will of God.  If God has called you to do something in the ministry or otherwise then go and do it.   “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land” “I come to do thy will Oh God”

4) Not walking in love:
Jesus said ” A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another AS I have loved you” It wasn’t a request! The Apostle Paul wrote “Make love your great quest…” Another Scripture says “Walk in love as dear children (of God)..”

Not walking in love towards people, will stop the blessing of God from operating in your life. WE are commanded to do so. As you purpose in your heart to do this, grace will be released to enable you to do it. You may (probably will, like me!) miss it now and again but as long as the decision is there, grace will enable you. If you miss it, then repent and move on.. None of this means God doesn’t love you, or that you won’t get to Heaven. He loves you because you accepted Jesus as your Lord and saviour. Jesus said.. “The Father Himself (tenderly) loves you because you believe on Me and that I came out from God” The help of the Holy Spirit: The Lord said to me a few weeks ago.. “The Holy Spirit is as passionate (willing) to help you as Jesus is to save you” Few of us would doubt the Lords willingness and sacrifice to save us from sin, yet very few of us seem to recognise that this same passion abides in the Holy Spirit, in regards to helping us. That is one of the reasons He came.. “I will send you another (just like me) helper” John14 ~ Ask Him for His help everyday. I lean upon Him greatly. I spend a lot of time in the Spirit, allowing His grace to pray the perfect will for my life and ministry. I treat Him just like Jesus. If the Lord Jesus Christ was walking the Earth now, we could go to Him and receive help for whatever we needed. The Holy Spirit is just like Jesus and He was sent to help us. He helped me receive my healing from diabetes and He is no respecter of persons (has no favourites) The Lord also said to me once. “The Holy Spirit will help you receive from the Lord son” So ask Him to help you.. Ask Him to help you walk in love. Ask Him to help you find God’s perfect will for your life. Ask Him to help you receive your healing from the Lord.. “Ask and it shall be given you…” Jesus said.

I don’t know if this will strike you the way that it has me BUT in it I believe a nugget can be found.  I intend to spend some time praying over each of these and hope you will also.  One nugget I believe we can take immediately is to continue in persistence.  Do Not Give Up.  Do Not accept the doctor’s word, do not accept what you see.  Believe God.  Though I may go down to the grave, I do so believing God and His truth and His Word for my life.  I am not trying to be preachy but am in the battle with you.

In Christ,

I hope that something in this letter may also help you in your situation.  If you would like me to join you in prayer please leave me a prayer request and I will do my best to make it a matter of prayer.

More of the same

April 12, 2010

Hi everyone.

Instead of writing about a specific thought today, I just wanted to ramble really and put down some random thoughts.

A friend of mine has received a bad report from his Doctor this week.   I have believed and still believe that God has provided the price for my friend’s  healing as well as for  my healing.  Jesus paid it all on Calvary’s hill.  All the while this life and death struggle is going on, taxes have to be paid and filed, dishes have to be done, meals prepared and so on and so forth.  In the face of the Doctor’s report it is so easy for our faith to waver and our thoughts to turn in directions that do not provide hope.

It occured to me that many people are facing similar struggles as we are facing with our health.  Some of you may be facing financial struggles, others emotional problems, many facing divorces and deaths of family members and loved ones.  Here is the email I sent to my friend and also my daily devotion  from David Wilkerson.

I have felt oppressed the last few days.  Sometimes discouragement comes in like a flood and wants to overtake us but I am lifted up.  Sister H. passed away this week and we lost a great woman of faith.  Then yesterday morning,  another lady I have been praying for passed away.  She has been sick for some time.   Things happen to us that makes us want to reexamine what we believe from God’s Word.  Satan whispers his deceitful lies to us.  When we won’t listen then he begins to shout it to us.

Sunday morning, our lesson was from Ephesians – putting on the whole armor of God.  Praise God.  The weapons in our arsenal are not carnal.  Our weapons are enough though.  Satan can only come at us through deceitful lies.  We live in a fallen world.  We live in a world where bad things happen to us.

We live in a world where we are born  and where we will die.  Our job is to be like Joshua who was not faint of heart.  He led the Israelites into the promised land after wandering in the wilderness for 40 years because of being faint of heart and really unbelief.  I don’t want to wander in the desert for 40 years.  No, they did not have to face their giants but gradually one by one they dropped off without seeing the vision accomplished, without seeing the promised land, without experiencing all that God had planned for them.   I would rather be in the battle.     Joshua led them into a  land that flowed with milk and honey but was filled with dangers on every hand.  It was not easy for them.  It required “Blood and Guts”.

Many of the Israelites died fighting.  I told someone recently that I would believe God, believe His Word and believe His promises.  I would rather go down to the grave fighting and kicking than to accept a lie from Satan.  I had a crisis of faith once that keeps me on course at times like this.  This is what I discovered.  When it get’s down to the bottom line.  What is the truth?  God is.  Either I believe him or either I don’t.  I made that decision a long time ago.  I believe God and everything God has to say in His Word.  My reasoning will fail me.  Only God will not fail me.  All of the Israelites are long dead.  But the one’s we remember and are recorded in history as accomplishing something were the one’s that crossed over into the promised land.

As I read this devotion that follows I thought of you.

THE WAY UP

I have known of great Christians who have experienced a trial so dark and deep
that life itself seemed almost not worth living. In his very darkest hour,
Jeremiah discovered a glorious truth that brought new hope and assurance to his
mind. It was something he already knew about God, but it didn’t touch his soul
until he came to the end of himself. He discovered that at the very bottom, God
was there! The farther down he went, the more God was to be discovered. God was
not to be discovered up there in some blissful soaring into untroubled skies,
but in the shadows of grief and despair. When Jeremiah hit bottom, he bumped
into God! He fell hard against the faithfulness of a compassionate God. Listen
to his discovery:

“God is a God of compassion…his compassions for me cannot fail…. They are
new every morning…great is his faithfulness…” (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Little by little, Jeremiah came to realize great truths that can only be
discovered by those who are down.

1. When I am at the very lowest point; when troubles flow over my heart like
water, and I say, “I am cut off,” God draws near and whispers, “Do not fear!”
(Lamentations 3:54-57).

2. When God seems to have “covered himself with a cloud, so that my prayers
could not pass through,” he will still see my oppression and will “judge my
case” (Lamentations 3:44, 59).

3. If the Lord allows grief and sorrow, he will at the same time uphold me with
abundant compassion and love (Lamentations 3:32).

4. God is not against me, trying to crush me under his foot when I’m down like
a prisoner in trouble (Lamentations 3:34).

5. God is not trying to sabotage any of my plans; he is not causing my
confusion; he is not working against me (Lamentations 3:35-36).

6. Even in my despair and bitterness, when I hated to face a new day, his
compassion failed not. His mercies were waiting for me, new each morning
(Lamentations 3:22-23).

7. Because God is always faithful, he will not cast me off. He will do right by
me and save me (Lamentations 3:25-26).

8. When I am at my lowest, I have nowhere to turn but to God, so I will lift up
my heart and my hands, and thank him for his faithfulness! (Lamentations
3:40-41).

9. Being down has spent my strength and hope. I am left empty and humbled, so
now I depend totally on his mercies! (Lamentations 3:18, 20-22).

Well that was the devotion and my email.  LET ME SHOUT LOUDER THAN SATAN.  YOU CAN BELIEVE GOD.  BELIEVE IN HIM.  BELIEVE HIS WORD.  DON’T WORRY ABOUT THEOLOGY.  GOD’S WORD IS SIMPLE.

OUR EXPERIENCE MAY TELL US TO QUESTION GOD.

OUR MINDS MAY TELL US TO QUESTION GOD.

OUR SPIRITS WILL TELL US TO BELIEVE GOD.   BELIEVE GOD.  BELIEVE HIS WORD. BELIEVE HIS PROMISES.  WHAT DO U HAVE TO LOSE?  EVEN IF  YOU  DIE, YOU WIN.  WE CAN’T BE DEFEATED AS LONG AS WE BELIEVE.

Many years ago, God gave me a chorus in the middle of a battle.  I would like to share it with you today.

I CAN’T LOSE

If you are facing a battle – Make this your battle cry -  I BELIEVE – Remember you have already WON.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Are your prayers hitting the ceiling?

March 30, 2010

A friend recently posted a comment on Facebook  as follows:

(Name withheld from comment) has been laying awake praying this morning.   I have felt for so long that I couldn’t pray, didn’t know what to pray, kind of like my prayers were hitting the ceiling and coming back down! Thank you Jesus for Your presence, for wrapping Your arms around me, for loving me when I will never deserve it!

I remember years ago,  for several months  I did not feel God’s Spirit as I once was.  My prayers were bouncing off the ceilings and the answers to prayer that I had been seeing  just were not there like before. Yes, God was still blessing me and yes, I knew he was hearing my prayers but there was definitely a difference. I was reading my bible, doing the same things I had been doing yet there it was. Something… different.

I continued praying. One day, I went downtown and had lunch with a friend of mine.  I was telling my friend how I felt. After lunch, for no apparent reason my car headed for our Church.   It was Wed. and it was about January or February as I recall. Cold. I determined on the way over that I was going to pray until I broke through the frost. If I had to stay all day and all night.

When I got to church, I let myself in and went to the sanctuary. I didn’t turn the lights on and the only light was streaming through our  stained glass windows. Going to the altar, I spoke to God. “Lord, I need to feel your fire, your touch, your presence. Getting to the altar I knelt down. Instantaneously, immediately, I felt God’s overwhelming presence. Tears filled my eyes and His presence filled me from top to bottom. I lay on the altar for what seemed like seconds only to find it was hours.

Finally, I got up and went to the first pew where light was streaming in. I realized I was chilled from the cold but just sat basking in a peace that comes from knowing you have touched God. As I was sitting there God began speaking to me about some things. I won’t share them here but I will never forget those moments.   The comment from my friend  this morning refreshed all of this in my mind.

We are not the only one’s who have felt this.   Why does  it seem that sometimes our prayers are hitting the ceiling?     My Pastor’s wife  at the time and I spoke of this at some length.   We determined that it stems from inside each of us and we came up with several reasons that might explain what is happening.

1. There is something inside ourselves seeking a greater relationship with the Lord Jesus.

 2. Perhaps it is the Holy Spirit wanting to take us to a new level of communication with our Lord. Many people just stop there and don’t go forward.

3. Some new work that God is doing in us and for us and perhaps preparing us for.

4. A new hunger for Him that is not being filled because we are body, soul and spirit and our bodies and mind do get in the way at times.

5.  A new dimension of worship that we are being brought into.

We had others as well.   Each of us is different and at different stages of our walk as Christians.  ONE thing I do know is this.

ALLOW GOD TO CONSUME  you totally and completely.  Take this opportunity to get serious with God. God Is WANTING to do something new and exciting in you. Don’t stumble now. Don’t relax now. Don’t accept this as just something that happens. Let God’s Spirit have control and you will see the mighty wondrous works of God in your life.

I have experienced it. I KNOW this.

If this is happening to you,  I am so excited for you. Get down and get serious. It may take you some time as it did me or it may happen in an instant but it is worth all your efforts.

Here are a few scriptures that speak for themselves.

John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
NKJV

John 1:12-13
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
NKJV

If we are a child of God, then we have to make sure that our relationship with God is in good standing.  Just like when we do something that displeases our parents and it strains the relationship for a while until we apologize and make things right, if we do something displeasing to God, that relationship will be strained and we need to confess, repent and make it right.

Ps 66:18
If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear.
NKJV

1 John 1:5-10
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
NKJV

1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world — the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life — is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
NKJV

Matt 5:23-24
Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,  24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
NKJV

BLESSINGS TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU.
